Soaring (Charcoal on paper 16" X 20") As much as I enjoy oil painting, drawing and illustration are also different approaches to creating art that I find very satisfying. In this case, I used charcoal sticks to capture a fleeting moment as the subject figure soars and seems suspended in mid-air for a brief moment in time.
The challenge here was to differentiate the texture of skin vs the tight fitted clothing without the use of colour. This piece was done in one sitting and was an afternoon of work, so creative decisions had to be made as you come across them in order to complete.
